Adult Education

At the Adult Education Centre (Vuxenutbildningen), anyone aged 20 or older can study. You can take SFI (Swedish for Immigrants), courses at the basic level, upper secondary school subjects, and vocational upper secondary education. University and college students also have the opportunity to take exams at the Learning Centre (Lärcentrum) in Finspång.

Basic level (Grundläggande nivå)

Basic adult education corresponds to Swedish compulsory school up to year 9. The content is adapted for adult learners and is intended for those who have not completed compulsory school. If you do not have a final grade but already have knowledge in a subject, you can take a placement test to be placed in the appropriate course level. We offer classroom-based instruction in mathematics and Swedish as a second language. English and other basic subjects can be studied remotely or through a contracted education provider.

Classroom-based instruction

  • Swedish as a second language, Course 2 - 4, 600 credits. Study pace: 50%. Courses start in August and January. Other start dates depending on availability.
  • Mathematics, Course 1 - 4, 700 credits. Recommended study pace: 50%. Ongoing admissions depending on availability.

Upper secondary level (Gymnasienivå)

This level is for those who lack an upper secondary education or wish to supplement their previous studies. You can work towards a diploma, gain eligibility for university or university college, or qualify for vocational education (YH).

We offer classroom-based instruction in Mathematics, Level 1 and 2. Other courses are available via distance learning through Arena Utbildning. You can choose to study part-time or full-time. All distance learning applications must be submitted through your home municipality. Before applying, make sure that the course is offered in the municipality of your choice.

More information about Arena Utbildning is available at:

If you have an upper secondary diploma from another country, you can check how it compares to the Swedish system by using the Assessment Service or by requesting a statement from the Swedish Council for Higher Education (Universitets- och högskolerådet, UHR). This evaluation is helpful when planning your studies together with a study and career counsellor.

Vocational education (Yrkesutbildningar)

Vocational education is intended for those who lack an upper secondary education or have a vocational upper secondary education that needs to be supplemented. Even if you have an academic upper secondary background, you can switch paths and obtain a vocational upper secondary qualification.

If you are registered as a resident in Finspång, you can apply to a wide range of vocational training programmes in eastern Östergötland through Yrkesvux Öst. Applications are submitted via:

Most vocational programmes require a passing grade in Basic Swedish/Swedish as a Second Language, course 4 (delkurs 4), or an equivalent qualification. Some vocational programmes can also be combined with SFI or Swedish as a Second Language studies.

Komvux Adapted Education

Komvux Adapted Education is intended for individuals with intellectual disabilities or acquired brain injuries. Here you can take basic-level courses that correspond to adapted compulsory education and subject levels from the national programmes of the adapted upper secondary school.

Once your application has been received, you will be invited to an admission meeting where you will meet a teacher. You are welcome to bring one or more persons with you, such as a legal guardian or a support contact. Based on your needs and wishes, we will create an individual study plan together. We will also decide together which days and times you will attend classes.

To apply for Komvux Adapted Education, fill in the application form and send it to the adult education department in Finspång.

Validation – get your previous knowledge assessed

You may have the opportunity to have your prior knowledge and experience assessed and documented. The purpose of validation may be to:

  • begin studies and tailor the course content and level to your existing knowledge so that you don’t need to repeat what you already know
  • shorten the duration of an ongoing education
  • document your knowledge to present at, for example, a job interview

Contact a study and career counsellor if you are interested in validation.

Commissioned Education

Commissioned education is aimed at companies, public authorities, and other organisations. We offer both standard courses from our regular educational programmes and customised training.

In collaboration with you as the commissioning party, we design the course content, structure, duration, and schedule. The commissioning organisation covers all costs and is responsible for selecting participants for the courses.
