Recycling centres and recycling stations

Waste that cannot be placed in your household waste containers may need to be taken to a recycling station or recycling centre.

Larger packaging made of paper, plastic, glass and metal can be taken to one of the recycling stations or to the Sjömansäng recycling centre.

Households can also leave bulky waste, hazardous waste, electrical waste, garden waste and other large items at the Sjömansäng recycling centre.

Home composting

You may compost food waste and garden waste on your property if this is done correctly. The compost must not cause odours or attract pests.

You must notify the Building and Environment Unit before composting food waste from your household. The compost container must be insulated and closed, but not airtight.

Until your notification for home composting has been approved, food waste must be placed in the green food waste bags provided by Finspångs Tekniska.

You do not need to notify the municipality if you only compost garden waste, such as leaves and branches.

Exemptions from waste collection rules

In certain situations, a property owner may apply for an exemption from Finspång Municipality’s waste collection rules.

All exemptions are personal and connected to a specific property. An exemption may be withdrawn if the circumstances change or if its conditions are not followed.

Applications must be submitted in writing to the Building and Environment Unit at least 6 weeks before the exemption is intended to begin. An exemption may be granted for a maximum of 5 years. A new application must then be submitted.

The municipality charges a fee for processing all exemption applications. The fee is based on the time required to process the case.

Temporary suspension of residual waste collection

You may apply for a temporary suspension if the property will remain unused for a continuous period of:

• at least 12 months for a holiday home
• at least 6 months for a permanent home

The suspension applies to both waste containers. It is not possible to suspend collection for only one container.

The property owner must continue to pay the basic waste collection fee to Finspångs Tekniska during the suspension period.

Exemption from residual waste collection

An exemption may only be granted if the property is not fit for habitation, for example if it is an abandoned building or is due to be demolished.

No waste may be generated at the property.

Septic tank emptying and latrine collection

For properties with a private wastewater system, Finspångs Tekniska is responsible for emptying sludge from systems such as septic tanks, greywater tanks and sealed tanks.

How often the system must be emptied depends on the type of system. The property owner is responsible for ensuring that the system works properly, is maintained, and that the tank or well is accessible when emptying is carried out.

Properties without either a municipal or private wastewater system, for example properties with an outdoor toilet or dry toilet, may subscribe to a latrine collection service. The service includes a latrine container, collection, transport and treatment of the waste.

Temporary suspension of septic tank emptying

You may apply for a temporary suspension if the wastewater system will not be used during a period covering at least two scheduled emptyings.

The tank or system must have been emptied recently. It must also have been filled with water during the most recent emptying.

Extended septic tank emptying interval

You may apply for a longer interval between emptyings if your wastewater system is used infrequently.

The interval that may be granted depends on:

• the type of wastewater system
• how often the system is used
• whether the system receives toilet wastewater or only wastewater from bathing, washing dishes and laundry

Waste management regulations

Finspång Municipality’s waste management regulations set out the local rules for waste collection and recycling. The regulations are adopted by the Municipal Council.
