Installed fireplace

If you plan to install a fireplace, wood-burning stove or other heating appliance, you must notify the municipality before installation begins. Here you can find information about the notification process, required documents and applicable regulations.

Fireplace installation

Are you planning to install a fireplace? If so, you must first submit a notification to the Building and Environment Unit (Bygg- och miljöenheten). Before installation can begin, you must receive a start notice. Before the fireplace can be used, you must also receive a final approval notice.

A fireplace is a collective term for heating appliances used for combustion and includes, among other things, wood-burning stoves, fireplace inserts, tiled stoves, sauna stoves, wood-fired cookers and oil-fired boilers.

It is important to submit a notification

You must submit a notification regarding the installation of a fireplace so that you can receive a start notice and a final approval notice from the Building and Environment Unit (Bygg- och miljöenheten). Without these decisions, you are not permitted to install a fireplace.

Installing or using a fireplace without a decision from the Building and Environment Unit may result in a sanction fee.

Notifications can be submitted through the municipality’s e-service, by email or by post.

Replacing an existing fireplace

A notification is also required if you replace an existing fireplace with a new one. The only exception is when the new fireplace has exactly the same output as the existing one.

If you are unsure whether a notification is required or have questions about the process, please contact the Building and Environment Unit (Bygg- och miljöenheten) in Finspång Municipality.

Required documents

The following documents must be submitted with your notification. If any documents are missing or unclear, you will be asked to provide additional information.

Inspection plan

An inspection plan is a document containing the checks that will be carried out during the project. It must specify which inspections will be performed, who is responsible for them and what standards or requirements they are assessed against. As the property owner or developer, you are responsible for preparing a proposed inspection plan.

Floor plan

The floor plan must show the location of the fireplace or wood-burning stove.

Elevation drawing (if required)

An elevation drawing is only required if a new chimney flue and chimney are to be installed. The drawing must show the location and height of the chimney.

Declaration of performance certificate

This document is usually supplied when purchasing the fireplace.

Site map

If there is more than one building on the property, the relevant building must be clearly marked on the map.
