Civil Marriage Ceremony
In Sweden, marriages can be either religious or civil. A civil marriage is a legally valid, non-religious ceremony conducted without a priest, officiated by an appointed civil marriage officiant. In Finspång Municipality, civil weddings are arranged in agreement with the officiant of your choice.
Ceremony Location
Finspång Municipality provides a dedicated ceremonial room in the municipal building, which is mainly used during the winter months. In summer, civil weddings most commonly take place at the Lugnet pavilion in the Finspång Castle Park (Slottsparken).
Civil marriage ceremonies arranged through Finspång Municipality are free of charge.
How to book a civil marriage ceremony:
1. Contact a civil marriage officiant
Start by contacting the officiant you would like to perform your ceremony to agree on a date and location. Contact details can be found under the “Marriage Officiants” section on this page.
2. Apply for a marriage license (hindersprövning)
Before getting married, the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) must verify that there are no legal impediments to marriage. You must jointly apply for this by calling 0771567 567, or submitting the form Hindersprövning – SKV 7880 to your local Tax Agency office.
The certificate is valid for four months, and the wedding must take place within that period.
3. Submit your certificates to the municipality
Once your application is approved, you will receive a Certificate of No Impediment and a Marriage Certificate from the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket). These certificates are valid for four months, and the wedding must take place within that period.
At least one week before the scheduled wedding ceremony, you must submit or send the Certificate of No Impediment and the Marriage Certificate to:
Finspång Municipality

Bergslagsvägen 13–15

4. Notify Finspång Municipality
Use the e-mail form below to submit the necessary details so that your ceremony can be arranged.
5. After the ceremony
After the ceremony, the couple will receive a Marriage Certificate, and the officiant will notify the Swedish Tax Agency that the marriage has taken place.
