Public skating

Public skating means that everyone is welcome to skate in the ice rink or on the bandy field at Arena Grosvad during designated hours.

When visiting Arena Grosvad for public skating, you need to bring your own equipment, such as skates and a helmet.

Equipment lending during the autumn break

During the autumn break (Monday to Friday), FAIK Bandy opens the bandy shed for lending helmets and skates between 10:00 and 12:00.

(updated 21 September 2025)

Autumn is here and winter is approaching. As temperatures slowly drop, it’s once again time for public skating at Arena Grosvad’s ice rinks. Here you can find information about when the ice is open. Please note that the schedule may change depending on weather conditions.

Long-Distance Skating

Långfärdsskridskotur i soluppnedgången

Finspång Municipality is home to one of the best areas in Östergötland for long-distance ice skating, with many small and medium-sized lakes surrounded by forest, offering a true nature experience.

The website of Bråvallaskrinnarna (BSK) provides updated information on current ice conditions and other topics related to long-distance skating.

Bråvallaskrinnarna is an ice skating association affiliated with Friluftsfrämjandet, Sweden’s national outdoor recreation organization. They are active in several nearby towns, including Finspång. Their local skating sections arrange introductory courses, try-it-out days, and also offer equipment rental during the season.

Skating on a crisp, sunny winter day can be a wonderful experience. But safety always comes first. You are responsible for your own safety on the ice. Here’s what to keep in mind:

  1. Always bring an ice pole to check the thickness of the ice.

  2. Never go out on the ice alone.

  3. Wear a backpack with a waist belt and pack dry clothes. Your backpack works as a flotation aid.

  4. Carry a rescue line in your backpack. The loop end should be attached to your waist belt and easy to reach without removing the pack.

  5. Bring ice picks and a whistle. Remember that even with picks, getting out of the water can be difficult. A friend with a rescue line is the best way to help.

  6. Ice should be at least 10 cm thick. Saltwater ice and snow-covered ice require even more.

  7. Be aware that new ice, spring ice, snow-covered ice and sea ice can be weak.

  8. Learn where ice tends to be weaker: near reeds, cracks, bridges, piers, inlets, outlets, straits, shallow areas and wind holes.

  9. The faster you move, the further you will glide on weak ice before it breaks, which makes rescue more difficult.

  10. Skiing on ice can be tempting, but make sure it’s safe. If the ice breaks, it is very difficult to get out while wearing skis or skates.

  11. Never leave children alone on or near the ice.

  12. Always tell someone where you’re going and when you plan to return.

All skating, including on cleared tracks, is at your own risk.

Did you know? You can borrow safety equipment for ice skating from Finspång’s Fire & Rescue Service, including ice poles, throw lines, and ice picks. Contact details can be found via the contact cards.
