Storgruvan loop

If you prefer a shorter walk, visit Hällestad’s Storgruva, about one kilometer long. In the 1600s, this was the largest iron mine in Hällestad, reaching its peak in the late 17th century. To reach it, you must pass the upper slag heaps. In addition to iron ore stones, you may also find many other interesting minerals. Around 300 years ago, stones and ore were hoisted up from the now water-filled mine.

This cultural and historical walk through Finspång is about 10 kilometers long and begins at the Finspång Tourist Office in the Kulturhuset. Along the way, you will gain insight into the area’s rich and varied history from the 1600s to the 1900s. More information and a map are available at the Tourist Office.
