Finspång offers great cycling opportunities for both everyday travel and leisure. Commute by bike to work or school, or enjoy a relaxing ride in the countryside. For more action, there are MTB trails and tracks throughout the municipality.

In central Finspång, there are walking and cycling paths that connect workplaces, schools, preschools, and the town center. Outside the central area, the cycling infrastructure extends along National Road 51, westward to Borggård and Hällestad, and eastward to Kolstad.

Cycling Routes in Finspång

The many small roads that wind through Finspång’s varied natural landscapes are well suited for cycling. These routes offer opportunities for physical activity while enjoying the surrounding scenery.

There are five marked and mapped cycling routes of varying lengths in nearby forested areas. All routes start at Yxviken, located approximately 500 meters north of Lotorp, along the road toward Igelfors.

Cycle the loop Yxviken - Brostugan - Bottorp - Yxviken. The trail is approximately 10 kilometres long and features several barriers (boom gates). Pay extra attention just before Bottorp, where one gate is located at the bottom of a downhill slope.

About two kilometers after Brostugan, the trail turns right. If you continue straight, you’ll reach Hedningeberget, which offers a great view.

This circular route goes Yxviken - Brostugan - Västjuten - Malthultet - Sandudden - Brostugan - Yxviken. The trail is approximately 20 kilometres long and includes several gates, all of which are open and clearly visible.

The roads from Yxviken to the turn-off towards Tjuttorp and from Malthultet to Sandudden are open to car traffic, so use caution. The trail runs through spruce forests, but there are also large areas of deciduous trees. Occasionally, you’ll pass marshes that open up the landscape.

After cycling for about three kilometers, you’ll make a sharp left turn. On the right side, you’ll see the remains of a pinecone plantation, once used to harvest seeds for nurseries. A few hundred meters ahead is a wooded area known as a great birdwatching spot.

The trail continues downhill to the left and soon reaches Västjuten. You’ll now be cycling along the lake’s western shore. After about four kilometers and passing a barrier, you’ll see the buildings of Malthultet. On both sides of the road, there are remnants of old cottages.

This longer tour follows the route Yxviken - Åfallet - Blixtorp - Ramstorp - Lunddalsvägen - Grosvad - Butbro - Lotorp - Yxviken, covering about 22 kilometres in total.

The road has barriers. Note that just after Åfallet, at the bottom of a hill, there is a barrier. The road from the southern end of Bleklången, near the parking area for Lilla Skiren, to Lunddalsvägen is open to cars.

The environment is varied. In some areas, deciduous forest dominates. You’ll pass the lakes Stora Skiren, Lilla Skiren, Bleklången and Bleken.

This trail loops through Yxviken - Brostugan - Häradstorp - Källfallet - Bottorp - Yxviken and is about 27 kilometres long.

The road from Yxviken to Häradstorp is open to authorized vehicle traffic, so be cautious and watch for cars.

Between Yxviken and Brostugan, you’ll encounter both short and long uphill climbs in quick succession. Get off your bike and take a short walk if needed. It’ll help conserve energy and give you a chance to stretch.

With about five kilometers left before reaching Häradstorp, you’ll see a bay of Lake Östjuten. There’s a beautiful rest area here worth stopping at.

Between Häradstorp and Källfallet, you can leave the paved road and cycle on two sections of the old road. From Bottorp back to Yxviken, once again be aware of possible vehicle traffic.

The municipality’s longest and most scenic cycling trail is around 30 kilometres and goes Yxviken - Brostugan - Mottorp - Tjuttorp - Kolvetorp - Malthultet - Sandudden - Flasbjörke - Skogstorp - Yxviken.

The road to Mottorp is open to authorized vehicle traffic. The road from Kolvetorp to Flasbjörke is open to all cars. The sections from Mottorp to Kolvetorp and from Flasbjörke to Yxviken have barriers. Just before Åfallet, at the bottom of a hill, there is a barrier.

This is the most scenic route, with many beautiful experiences along the way. Up to Mottorp, you’ll ride through a spruce forest. After passing the houses, about 500 meters ahead, a road climbs steeply to the right.

This road takes you to Kättelgrytsberget, which offers a wide view over the landscape. You’ll then reach Tjuttorp and soon find yourself at Västjuten. This time, you cycle along the eastern shore of the lake, with many great picnic spots.

After leaving the lake behind and heading into the forest, you’ll pass a barn. It’s a reminder of the days when the marsh behind it was mown. It’s said that up to twelve barns once stood on that marsh. Through the trees, you’ll soon glimpse water again. You’re getting close to Kolvetorp.

The first thing you’ll see is the Modo Forest recreation area. There’s a trash shelter here that serves the canoe trail. After passing all the houses in Kolvetorp, you’ll see a sign for “Kallkälla” on the left side of the road.

MTB-spår Arena Grosvad

Technically an easy trail, although it begins with two steep uphill sections. After just over one kilometer, it is possible to shorten the route to avoid the second, more demanding climb. The shortened version is 9.5 kilometers. The trail mostly consists of wide forest paths with a few short segments on low-traffic gravel roads. Near the turnaround point by Lunddalen, there is a 1.5 kilometer stretch of narrow single-track trails.

Technically an intermediate trail with two moderate climbs and a few tricky downhill sections. The trail consists mostly of single-track paths.

An intense and varied trail combining single-track and wider paths. Technically intermediate but likely the most physically demanding route, with three significant climbs and few opportunities to rest. The trail winds through the area surrounding Grosvad.

This is the most technically challenging trail, featuring difficult downhill sections and two steep climbs. The route consists mostly of single-track paths.
