Special housing for older adults

If you are no longer able to live independently at home, you may apply for a place in special housing (särskilt boende, SÄBO) in Finspång Municipality.

Special housing provides accommodation with staff available around the clock. Each unit has shared spaces such as a kitchen and common room. Many of the facilities are specially adapted for people with dementia.
Finspång Municipality also offers short-term housing, intended for recovery and rehabilitation after, for example, a hospital stay. A short-term place can also be granted to relieve a family caregiver.

Information About Special Housing

There are six special housing facilities and one short-term housing unit in Finspång Municipality. Two facilities are located in rural areas and four in urban areas. All units offer the same level of care, and it is not possible to choose a specific facility.

Rooms are furnished with a bed. You are expected to bring your own personal belongings and furniture. Each unit has a shared kitchen/living room with, among other things, a TV. Upon moving in, you will receive a safety alarm worn on the wrist or around the neck to call for help if needed. A nurse is available around the clock, and a doctor visits the facility regularly. Rehabilitation staff such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists are also available when needed.

Fees

The cost of living in special housing is partly based on national rules for maximum fees (maxtaxa) under the Swedish Social Services Act and partly on your personal financial situation. You pay a fee for the care you receive. The exact amount depends on your income and housing costs.

How to Apply for Special or Short-Term Housing

To be granted a place in special housing or short-term housing, a needs assessment must be carried out by a case officer (biståndshandläggare). You need to submit an application, and your needs will be assessed in accordance with the Swedish Social Services Act.
Finspång Municipality’s social services are obligated to provide support to individuals who cannot meet their daily needs on their own.
You can apply for special housing either in writing or verbally. The processing time for an application is approximately eight weeks.
